This role is meant to add value and improve operations by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to the effectiveness of accounting and finance management, control, and governance processes. The successful candidate should be professionally competent, demonstrate ability to provide strategic leadership and general understanding of the environment that the organisation operates in.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and oversee implementation of the institute’s financial management and accounting policies.
- Approve and establish standards of financial management and internal controls in line with organizational strategic goals.
- Oversee day to day management and monitoring the institutes finance to ensure efficient fiscal operations.
- Approve and ensure refunds are paid out as per the approved procedures.
- Facilitate internal audits, annual external audits as well as ad hoc audits as may be required.
- Oversee processing of requisitions and payments.
- Responsible for logistics, processes, technical aspects and administrative functions of both campuses.
- Develop, maintain and monitor the administration of the budget.
- Ensure that turnover and profitability for all courses is maintained.
- Ensure bank and M-pesa statement reconciliation as per the institute’s operational procedures.
- Oversee the receipt and dispatch of stock to other campuses or to different departments.
- Streamline management of requisition and procurement processes in place .
- Track and manage all records of all class attendance and fees payments i.e(payments, processes and documentation).
- Track and analyze records of intake versus exam records.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the Finance department including daily work plans.
- Manage, implement and follow up on business budgets.
- Responsible for analyzing financial transactions and statements to ensure smooth running of the institute.
- Provide both assurance, consultancy, and advisory for all the finance matters in the institution.
- Evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency with which resources are utilized.
- Evaluating the means of safeguarding assets and, as appropriate, verifying the existence of such assets.
- Evaluating operations or programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and goals and whether the operations or programs are being carried out as planned.
- Reporting significant risk exposures and control issues, including fraud risks, governance issues, and other matters needed or requested by the directors.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures for the finance department.
- To monitor control mechanisms implemented as part of the Accounting process and assess their operational effectiveness.
- Management of stores inventory records.
- Knowledge on emerging issues in the industry.
- Perform other related duties as required from time to time.
Key Qualification
- Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting or Finance from a recognized institution
- At least 6 years of experience directly related to the specified duties and responsibilities .
- Must be a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in good standing.
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and/or Certified Information System Auditor-CISA and/or Certification in Risk Management will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of internal Auditor will be an added advantage.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to work and foster teamwork with others
- Ability to use accounting software and tools
- Knowledge of professional standards and procedures
- Having worked in a school or institution will be an added advantage
- Understanding of IT control environment
