Job Description
The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.
Purpose of consultancy
The consultant will perform the following:
- develop a business case for yellow fever interventions;
- develop funding proposals;
- provide advocacy expertise to enable attainment of financial, technical, and non-financial resources for the global Eliminate Yellow fever Epidemics (EYE) strategy.
Deliverables
- Deliverable 1: Develop business case report for YF interventions.
- Deliverable 2: Develop and submit at least 5 proposals for WHO AFRO, PAHO, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nigeria, Ethiopia and 3 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Deliverable 3: At least 1 large funding commitment ($1 million) is secured annually to ensure progress across key unaddressed thematic areas and to address critical gaps in LAC.
- Deliverable 4: Secure at least $1million for the 3 no-regret African high-risk countries (DRC, Ethiopia, Nigeria) in 2022 and 2023.
Qualifications, experience, skills and languages
Educational Qualifications:
Essential:
- Advanced university degree in international or public relations, business administration, communications, social sciences, law, public health or another related field.
Desirable:
- Specific training certificate in business administration, communications, or other relevant field.
Experience
Essential:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience combined at the national and international levels, in the areas of partnerships, donor relations, private sector engagement or resource mobilization, with emphasis on public health.
- Experience in developing business cases in the global health field.
Desirable:
- Experience in conducting cost studies in health care.
- Experience in fundraising markets for projects in Africa or the Americas especially for health and specifically for vaccination.
- Experience with WHO, UN agencies, US Center for Disease Control (CDC) or a health cluster member organization.
Skills/Knowledge:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to convey complex proposal development, donor reporting/relations with clear recommendations.
- Ability to produce quality reports.
- Solid knowledge of advocacy, communications, partnerships, and resource mobilization.
- Knowledge of the work of UN agencies and the practical considerations for funding and advocacy.
- Knowledge of stakes linked to arboviral diseases and/or tropical diseases with epidemic potential
