Business Need / Purpose of Role
The QHSSE Manager reporting to the Head of Global QHSSE, shall be responsible to Manage the regional Quality, Health & Safety, Security and Environment (QHSSE) function. This includes implementing QHSSE strategies for the Inchcape Group and striving for end-to-end supply chain best practice and internal/external compliance.
The job holder shall monitor and analyze Inchcape’s level of operational compliance against international and other Standards. Provide the regional focus for QHSSE matters for Africa as a regional champion and auditor across the following areas:
Objectives & Measurement – Key Responsibilities:
Standards
- Oversight of Inchcape QHSSE issues in the Africa
- Specific responsibility for ISO 9001 certification maintenance, QMS implementation, Environmental, Health & Safety Plan and Inchcape Security Plan implementation and maintenance for Inchcape in Africa
- Maintain QHSSE Quality Records for Africa
- Attend external audits with certification bodies.
Audit Planning
- Develop and maintain an internal ISO audit schedule agreed with Regional Management and line management.
Auditing
- Conduct internal & external audits to professional standards to an agreed schedule covering all revenue streams focusing on quality, health & safety, environment, risk, branding and ethics.
- Give guidance and support to the shared QHSSE Auditors who will provide support to the Africa region.
Audit Reporting
- Write professional & constructive audit reports, on site wherever practical
- Endeavour to reach agreement with auditees on the content of the Audit Report including corrective actions with agreed timescales.
- Provide timely monthly reporting.
Audit after-action review
- Perform periodic audit follow-up to ensure audit recommendations and Audit CARs are addressed / closed on time.
- Follow up on and track corrective actions and non-conformance.
- Investigate and sign off CARs raised via Salesforce in a timely manner when the business unit’s actions are deemed to be satisfactory.
- Report CAR status each month.
Data & Trend Analysis
- Provide monthly trend analysis.
- Track progress on achieving local and regional goals.
Business Support
- Participate in the evaluation of new business opportunities / revenue streams.
- Assist in the preparation of tender responses on QHSSE issues.
Regional Champion
- Be the Regional Champion of QHSSE awareness and compliance within Africa.
- Interface with customers, vendors, insurers, certification bodies and local authorities to represent Inchcape interests.
Troubleshooting
- Assist in the responses made to principals when service failures are identified.
- Lead investigations when tasked by line management, regional management, Internal Audit or Compliance.
Quality
- Help improve the suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness of Inchcape’s Management Systems.
- Help reduce or eliminate Customer complaints.
- Promote continual improvement through measurable and sustained business performance.
Health & Safety
- Advise regional and line management on QHSSE matters.
- Help reduce or eliminate injuries and accidents in Africa.
- Conduct and/or advice regional and line management on HSSE hazard identification and risk management methodologies.
- Work with the QHSSE team to improve and refine the Inchcape Management Systems.
- Promote a ‘no blame’ culture and reporting of Health & Safety Incidents and near misses
Risk Management
- Ensure the Inchcape Group is compliant with, or exceeds, security requirements in Africa.
- Reduce liabilities including fines, penalties, forfeitures and concessions made to principals.
- Advise and train staff to conduct suitable and adequate Risk Assessments.
The post holder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope and purpose of the job as requested by the Line Manager and ensure full utilization of all Inchcape systems according to Standard Operating Procedures.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of the Standards including the ISM Code and OAHS 18001 (H&S) & ISO 9001
- Ability to work collaboratively with a geographically spread team
- Ability to work without direct supervision
- On hands experience working in roles delivering services to customers
- International maritime or logistics industry experience shall be desirable
- Having experience working in organizations operating in different time zones
- Competent user of the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Balance multiple tasks, changing priorities & operate within a deadline-oriented environment.
- A self-motivated with ability to work independently.

Education/Experience:
- Candidates to be educated to a degree or equivalent level shall be required.
- Candidates with certification in the following areas shall be desirable: Lead Auditor ISO 9001:2015‘ NEBOSH IGC Safety Course, Lead Auditor BS OHSAS 18001:2007 and/or ISO 45001:2018, Lead Auditor ISO 9001:2015, Lead Auditor ISO 14001:2015, Risk Management.
