Summary
A headteacher must be prepared to face a wide range of challenges and responsibilities daily. They should be able to communicate in public and spend time on their own completing administrative assignments.
Their main duties and responsibilities include:
- Creating an academic program for students that meets national standards
- Develop agendas, meetings and arrange for speakers and meeting minutes with parents.
- Working closely and communicating with students’ parents
- Helping assess students’ needs and development
- Selecting, training, supporting, and assessing staff
- Providing guidance to staff to help resolve issues with students
- Using data to track student performance and produce reports
- Working with external advisors and school governors
- Controlling school finances
- Ensuring the safety of all children in the institution/program
- Manage staff attendance, submit timesheets and enter time into the timesheet system.
- Handle authorized emergency and safety procedures
- Design school’s aims and objectives and implement policies
- Ensure policies and practices consider national, local, and school inspection research findings
- Supervise and evaluate school policy effects and take action where necessary
- Develop creative and responsive approaches to teaching and learning
- Engage self-learning by ensuring culture and ethos of support and challenge
- Exhibit and express high expectations and establish community targets
- Assess, organize and execute flexible curriculum and effective assessment framework
- Strategize development of emerging technologies to extend the learning experience
- Plan, support and assess individuals and teams’ work to ensure task delegation
- Ensure a reasonable teacher-staff schoolwork balance
- Sustain staff performance management effective systems and incorporate teachers’ appraisals and targets for School’s achievement
Minimum Requirements
- Must have served as a Deputy Headteacher
- Must have teaching experience of 3 years with 2 years in CBC System
- Must have a TSC number
- Must be in possession of a relevant Degree in Education (Primary) Diploma certificate or a P1 Certificate
- A Certificate or Diploma in Montessori will be an added advantage
- Must have a Certificate of good conduct
- Ability to lead, organize and manage a school
