Job Description
SBM, a growing international financial institution in Africa, provides a wide range of corporate and commercial banking solutions to its clients. Kenya will operate as a gateway to Africa for SBM. SBM Bank (Kenya) Limited shall focus its activities on products and services for corporates and SMEs.
Job Purpose:
The Database Administrator is responsible for the design, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and management of databases. The DBA is also responsible for the design, extension, integration, maintenance, and management of Cloud-based DBMS.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure day-to-day management, administration, monitoring, and support of databases
- Ensure that proactive housekeeping and other measures are taken to mitigate risk of database failures impacting customer service and operations
- Perform database installation, upgrade, migration, recovery, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database related issues
- Carry out proactive monitoring to detect potential issues and maintain database uptime
- Ensure continuous identification of improvement areas to enhance existing databases
- Carry out the implementation of established security policies to ensure data protection, control, and auditing
- Perform DR Drills as per established calendars
- Ensure compliance with database licensing policy
- Define Cloud database management architectural guidelines, monitoring and continuity design
- Advise on rationalizing DBMS infrastructure and when and where to replace aging DBMS assets with new assets and when to use the Cloud and
- dbPaaS as a primary platform
- Be responsible for Cloud data migration, database application analysis and design, optimization testing, support and management of cloud
- Database infrastructure
- Predict DB usage and capacity requirements through modelling and analysis to anticipate demand
- Training staff in the skills required for migration to Cloud and new DBMS assets
- Perform any other related duties as may be required
Capabilities & Skills:
- Experience to set up database including clustering, replication, backups, monitoring and perform performance tuning
- Conversant with Unix, Linux and Windows operating platforms
- Conversant with Shell Script programming for automation of database repetitive tasks
- Oracle and MSSQL database platforms
- Conversant with best practices and techniques to maintain and enhance information security
- Knowledge of business continuity/disaster recovery planning processes and procedures
- Database licensing models
- Relational and non-relational database management systems
- Cloud-based migration, deployment models, and database platform as a service (dbPaaS)
- Creative and technical problem-solving techniques while installing, configuring, and maintaining DBMS
- Experience in designing or implementing optimal Database solutions for the requirements
- Awareness/Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks as applicable to the BFSI sector
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- University degree in Computer Science or related field
- Database Certification from a recognized training institute
- Cloud Certification with specialization in Database from leading CSPs is an advantage
- ITIL & DevOps is an advantage
- At least 5 years’ work experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Database Administration and
- Cloud DBMS
- Experience in Cloud/IT Security is an advantage
- Fluent in English and French (both verbal and written)
