Job Description
SBM, a growing international financial institution in Africa, provides a wide range of corporate and commercial banking solutions to its clients. Kenya will operate as a gateway to Africa for SBM. SBM Bank (Kenya) Limited shall focus its activities on products and services for corporates and SMEs.
Job Purpose:
The Network Engineer is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and management of network, communication, and related security appliances, equipment, tools, and links. The incumbent is also responsible for the design, extension, integration, maintenance, and management of Cloud-based Networks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure day-to-day management, administration, monitoring, and support of network, communication, and related security appliances,
- equipment, tools, and links
- Ensure that proactive measures are taken to mitigate risks of failures impacting customer service and operations
- Design, Implement, Upgrade, and Configure Network, Communication, and related Security appliances and equipment
- Troubleshoot and resolve network and communication related issues
- Carry out proactive monitoring of performance, utilization, throughput and latency to detect potential issues and maintain uptime
- Advise on optimisation of network latency and response time
- Ensure continuous identification of improvement areas
- Carry out assessment and procurement of network, communication, and security solutions
- Carry out the implementation of established security policies to ensure protection against internal/external attacks
- Perform DR Drills as per established calendars
- Handle emergency support situations and devise effective solutions to technical problems under high pressure during planned or unplanned outages
- Ensure Network security at all times
- Define Cloud network architectural and security guidelines, service monitoring and connectivity design
- Manage Cloud Networks
- Migrate or extend networks to the Cloud
- Predict network usage requirements through modelling and analysis to anticipate demand
- Train staff in the skills required for migration to Cloud and new Network assets
- Perform any other related duties as may be required
Capabilities & Skills:
- LAN/WAN, Cisco, Routers, Switches, Wi-Fi & SD-WAN, Firewall, IDS & IPS, etc.
- IaaS, PaaS, Software-defined networks (SDN), Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) etc.
- Network Design, Implementation, Performance Tuning and Problem Solving
- Conversant with best practices and techniques to maintain and enhance information security
- Knowledge of business continuity/disaster recovery planning processes and procedures
- Creative and technical problem-solving techniques while installing, configuring, and maintaining Networks
- Experience in designing or implementing optimal networking solutions for the requirements
- Awareness/Knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks as applicable to the BFSI sector
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
- A University degree in Computer Science or related field
- Cloud Certification with specialization in Network from leading CSPs is an advantage
- ITIL & DevOps is an advantage
- At least 5 years’ work experience in Information Technology, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Network Engineering and Cloud Networks
- Experience in Cloud/ IT Security is an advantage
- Fluent in English and French (both verbal and written)
