Role Purpose
We currently have an exciting career opportunity for Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting within Jubilee Life
Insurance Company of Burundi . The position holder will report to the General Manager and will be based at
Bujumbura.
Role Purpose
The role holder will be responsible for preparing the financial statements and reports needed for the Life business and
its subsidiaries (Jubilee Investment and Jubilee Center) to comply with regulatory and group requirements. The role
holder also organizes and presents financial reports to the Management Team and will assist with the preparation of
company tax filings, provision of reports and point of contact for auditors during audits.
Main Responsibilities
-
Accounting & Reporting
a) Ensure adequate recruitment and development of finance staff so that the department has an appropriately
qualified and experienced team. Provide annual and half year performance evaluations to the General Manager
and monitor areas for improvement.
b) Agree and evaluate targets (budget and performance) to steer and motivate the department according to agreed
performance management and budget targets.
c) Coordinate with the Audit teams to ensure a transparent and objective review of all points raised through the audit
process and coordinate with Finance Team to ensure all internal audit matters are cleared satisfactorily and in a
timely manner.
d) Coordinate with the internal Actuaries to ensure timely completion of statutory valuation and reserve calculations
and additional projects as required.
e) Preparing and reporting of monthly management accounts including GWP, Revenue Account, MKF and Technical
Report in the required format and within the required timelines.
f) Preparing and maintaining monthly, quarterly, and annual returns to the Tax Authority.
g) Preparation of half-yearly and annual financial statements for ARCA and BRB in the required formats and within
the required timelines.
h) Coordination of the Company’s Payroll process ensuring strict adherence to the timelines.
i) Ensure the company is able to implement new accounting system (OFA) within the project timeline and ensure full
utilization of the same.
j) Overseeing the day-to-day activities of Jubilee Life and Jubilee Center and prepare monthly, quarterly and annual
reports for management highlighting the performance and any other matters of concern and possible corrective
measures relating to the two entities. -
Controlling & Reporting
a) Oversee and deliver the annual audited financial statements and annual report of the company and its subsidiaries.
b) Review and analyze financial data and performance against plan and industry overall performance, including to
analyze and report financial information to management within agreed timelines including profit & loss statements,
capital investment, budget allocation, cash flow forecasting and asset-liability management.
c) Enhance the utilization and proper functioning of the integrated financial and management information systems
(OFA).
d) Advise and be a point of reference for the General Manager in all financial and regulatory matters that impact the
company.
e) Ensure timely delivery of reports required by regulatory and industry bodies.
f) Establish and maintain the financial business plan for the company, including the expense budget and monitor
variances between budget and actual performance so that corrective measures can be taken to minimize expense
over-runs where required.
g) Maintain effective models of the business to support the busines s planning process.
h) Implement system s to enable management of expenses and capital needs within budge t.
i) Participate in the annual budgeting process and preparation of board presentations.
j) Ensure compliance and response to all finance and operations related circulars from regulatory bodies are promptly
addressed and work with management and the team to ensure all gaps are closed within the required timelines. -
Investment Management
a) Develop an investment strategy for the company that seeks to maximize on the returns on investment and ensures
profitability of the funds.
b) Preparing an Investment Policy Statement that is consistent with the regulatory allocation of admitted assets and
liability.
c) Present Investment Reports and Strategies to the investment committee and advise management and the Board
on actions to be taken.
d) Monitor and report on the investment market analysis on a monthly basis. -
Leadership
a) Provide leadership to all staff within the Finance Department.
b) Work effectively with leaders in different business units to ensure a comprehensive finance strategy that benefits the entire company.
c) Analyze information and communicate with Senior Management and the General Manager.
d) Provide clear directions on strategic goals, translating and prioritizing them into business and performance
measures.
e) Work with Departmental Heads in the Company to achieve excellent business results through continuous people development and mentoring activities.
f) Ensure the development of a high-performing team through embedding formal Performance Management and informally coaching the management team on how to conduct the process effectively.
g) Monitor the strict adherence to governance and setting world class standards of professionalism within the Finance
Department. -

Minimum of 6 years relevant experience in the Financial Services Sector and 3 years’ experience in external audit
at a supervisory level.
2. Experience in reviewing and addressing gaps in insurance operations.Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or any other related field.
2. ACCA or equivalent Finance related professional Qualification is mandatory.
3. Well versed with key accounting computer system s operations
4. Fluency in English and French
5. Membership of Ordre des Professionnels Comptables du Burundi (O.P.C) is an added advantage
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or any other related field.

4. Fluency in English and French
